The Safest Space

My favourite cafe in Bombay, in the world, the safest space my soul has ever occupied, is shutting. Because pandemic, because Colaba rent, because of all the murkiness and filth that real life brings with it.

It's the most beautiful cafe. Big windows, natural light, quirky but unobtrusive decor. A display full of the best macaroons and pastries you'll now never taste. Small tables scattered all over, everything designed to be both open and cozy.

I was delighted when I discovered that it delivered to work. Delighted, and pained, because how was I going to stop myself from ordering from there every second day? But I found a way to, I set rules - I could only order if I was having a really bad day, or if it was the first day of my period and my cramps were killing me. I could only order if I'd not spent too much money on other random nonsense. I found a way to exercise restraint, and I've never regretted anything more. I wish I'd given in every time, wish I'd bankrupted myself and ruined my waistline and drowned every passing woe and daydream into that magical hot chocolate and croissant.

It became a transportable safe space, a transformational one, when I found out that it delivered to work. I could quietly recede into myself, take my hot chocolate and croissant, or pastry, or macaroon, into a corner of the pantry, put on my noise cancelling headphones and open up a book and just...be. Even if I couldn't, even if I was piled with work and chained to my desk, everything was okay if I just had a box with that beautiful logo by my side. I cut up a piece of the design on the box and pinned it up to my desk. I thought I was being foolish, given how routinely I ordered from there, but it felt wrong to just throw away such beautiful boxes. I've never been so glad to have been foolish.

I don't know if the food had healing qualities, if it was made with the love my mother always said was the ingredient that really elevates food, or if it's just that I connected it to safety and warmth and deliverance in my mind, but every sip rejuvenated me, every bite allowed me to go on a little bit more. It was therapy in a cup.

Not everyone loved it. I dragged everyone I could over there, every visitor from out of town, every friend, flatmate and friendly acquaintance. Every date was strictly kept away from it, because what if it was a bad one, and a boy tainted my safest space? Everyone liked it, but no one seemed as taken in as I was. Some recommended other, better cafes to me. And I went to them, I've been to so many of the prettiest, quirkiest, quaint-est, Sam-perfect outlets out there and...nothing else has ever matched up. Many have been indisputably nice, but they were just restaurants and cafes, just food cooked by someone else on a plate before you. Le15 was...something else.

And now it won't be.

The Albanian

This piece of TMI has been sitting in the drafts box for a while, from back in the days when Europe was at my feet and real life was a faraway haze my parents sometimes spoke of. I was on my way to someplace pretty (wasn't that all I did, those days?), but there were people in the way of my scenery and I owed my friends a life update, so I settled into my train seat and gave them the story of The Albanian. It had sass, (incessant talk of) sex, bitchiness and misogyny. Booze and drugs and tattoos. Alcoholic missteps, fumbled flirting and lame comebacks. Really, pick a cliche and it was there.

And, for the rest of you, here it is. For context - I really didn't like men in early 2017.

_______________________

The story starts one wintry February, when Annie-with-a-boyfriend announces that she thinks B, he of the long hair, tattooed arms and constant cigarettes, is hot, and that I, single-af-Sam, should go for it. Personally, I'm more inclined towards his good-boy-looks quiet-but-witty friend - let's call him D - but D is still in love with his ex (as am I? Maybe), and what is exchange for if not experimentation?

The Albanians in the house tease B about me in Albanian. The Indians of the house tease me about B in Hindi. The stage is set.

Then follows a series of flirtatious encounters so smooth and skilled that they will make you, dear reader, wonder why you ever thought yourself awkward. He compliments my hoodie. He compliments by pyjamas. And lest you think he is just a platonically inclined boy with exceedingly good taste in clothing, he compliments my fingers. He compliments my name, repeatedly and more than a little drunkenly. He calls me beautiful.

Given his tendency towards baggy t-shirts and baggier basketball shorts, I don't have too much to compliment in return, but I am open to listening, and he wants to talk. Boy, does he want to talk. He comes and sits with me in the kitchen we share, not eating or cooking or cleaning (even, almost especially, when it is his week to clean the kitchen), just talking at me. I am in a new country with new people for new experiences, and I am curious. He tells me about his family fleeing to Greece when there is a coup against the Albanian government of which his father is a member. He tells me about the mountains and beaches of Albania, about the women and...then some more about the women. He talks a lot about the women. Much of the time he wastes in being a man™, in that he repeatedly shares with me his authoritative opinions about myself and my life without having any knowledge, insight or foundation whatsoever for the same. He ignores my indications that I am familiar enough with my own life, and would prefer he stick to talking about his own fairly interesting narrative.

We drink together sometimes, the two of us and the other housemates, in various permutations and combinations. The alcohol loosens lips, begets questions ("no, but how are you still a virgin?"). Weeks of awkward kitchen encounters pass. By the time that fateful night arrives, I have thought about him, told my friends about him, and talked about him when there was nothing to talk about. I have considered the possibility of liking him, or even just making out with him, of switching my measure from "why him?" to "why not"? He has left hearts on one of my facebook posts.

Then, that night, we decide once again to drink together, me and B and D and a common friend, L. By this point, dear reader, it is clear that the more I interact with him, the less I want to keep interacting with him, and on this night, I mostly keep to myself. But while I may have all but dismissed him internally, the elephant in the room has only grown larger externally. We play a game, and I choose dare, and am asked to kiss the wall for a minute. He walks over to examine the sight closely, and declares that he doesn't want to kiss me if that's how I kiss. I tell him not to worry about it - he is unlikely to ever be allowed to kiss me. On his part, in the manliest™ of moves, he is all over L, a friend of mine and a fellow housemate he has lived with for nigh on a year and a half. It seems like our charade of mutual forced interest (which self-proclaimed player hits on a woman like that if he actually wants to get anywhere?) is finally over, and I am relieved.

But no! In an almost impossible twist, we find ourselves walking to a club, arm in arm. Our friends take a turn around the road and suddenly, his mouth is on mine, his tongue exploring the contours of my chin, lips and nose in what has to be the worst kiss I will hopefully ever experience. I am flummoxed. I am confused. I am, by god, going to get a better kiss out of this. I push him away and blink confusedly up at him in my classic sexy way, and then reach up for a kiss worthy of the name. Alas, friends, while the tongue stays where it is supposed to this time, it still turns out to be nothing to write home about, and we proceed onwards as though nothing has happened.

But something has happened. My tongue has been loosened, by both drink and touch, and before I know, out pops from my mouth, "Wow, you're a terrible kisser."

There is a pause, and then a longer pause because I have not yet realized that the words have been spoken out loud. Another stretch of time passes while my alcohol-addled brain catches up with my mouth, and it's a few more minutes before my brain and mouth are able to co-ordinate a rescue. Finally, in a save as bad as his kiss, I attempt to assuage his inflated ego and my inflamed sense of guilt with a weak, "Hey, I didn't actually mean that. You know I was kidding, right?"

"Of course you didn't mean that," he says, in a weak imitation of his usual swagger, "how could you possibly have meant that?"

Needless to say, the compliments stop. My taste in fashion is no longer worthy of his attention. Suddenly, I am not a very good cook; suddenly, I am defensive and not funny; suddenly, he is no longer compelled to sit with me in the kitchen for hours. Something about a rude virgin who knows how she likes her kisses has rubbed him the wrong way (swear it wasn't my tongue, though), and he is not a happy man.

Now, someone normal would have breathed a sigh of relief at being left alone and moved on to other, fun-er experiences in literally the most beautiful country in the world. But you know me better than that, reader. You know about my overactive guilt glands, and while I thought I had lost them after The Break Up, along with my kindness and other virtues, I was wrong. They were there, and they made themselves heard. Suddenly, I was the one maneuvering to catch his eye in the kitchen, seeking him out to say nice things to, complimenting his...basketball shorts.

It wasn't much, of course - I really didn't want to push it enough to make him think I wanted to kiss him again. But they were attempts, however feeble, to be nice and charitable; there was a sense of being plagued by guilt for the rest of my life, for the awful words that had slipped through my mouth.

That was, fortunately, not to be. Showing true chivalry, he bided his time, and responded with enough meanness to assuage more vestiges of guilt than even my unduly engorged guilty glands could produce. This is how it happened.

A few exams and papers after The Kiss, I found myself once again drinking in his lacklustre company, with our mutual friend once again the object of his affection. I was there because she had asked me to be; when it was clear a threesome was unlikely, he was evidently not pleased to have me there. I intended to enjoy a few drinks and take my leave, aiming for a largely uneventful evening, but my life took one look at my plans and said, "lol."

And thus began a journey of self-awareness that I had hoped would occur more organically in this exchange. For, dear friends, he called me fat. Then he called me asexual. Then he said he was joking and begged my forgiveness, but that is irrelevant to this story and to the larger scheme of life.

Now of course, there is context to this hurling of names. A boy, however chivalrous, does not simply say such a thing out of the blue. First, we talked about the meaning of the word "bitch", and he vociferously defended the rights of women to be as slutty as they pleased. Then, we talked about the use of protection - specifically, his preferred contraceptive of "pulling out" without use of either condom or birth control. The mutual friend and I were, obviously, aghast. I argued for the use of the pill - no, he said, it fucks with women's bodies. Before I could fully be amazed at his knowledge of the process and its side-effects, of his surprising sensitivity to the hormonal and physical pains the pill can inflict on women, he went on: it makes them fat.

Another pause; another few moments simply to attempt to comprehend the sheer magnitude of his ignorance and entitlement. A confession - I know what I'm talking about because I was on birth control for nearly a year. A retaliation - is that why you're fat?

I waited for more, but that was honestly the only comeback he had. I had expected something - he had hinted sufficiently earlier on at my terrible taste in "many things" to make it clear that a retaliation for my kiss comment was on its way - and, despite all evidence to the contrary, I had really expected something a little more imaginative. I mean, it had taken him three months to come up with this

Then, as is customary in such gatherings, I was interrogated about my intact hymen. My friend was genuinely curious - was I not scared that I'd never lose it? Was I worried about the pain? Why, in the course of a year-long relationship, had I not felt like having sex? I attempted to answer, but the mansplainer got in my way. "It's against human nature not to want sex," he crowed. What about asexuals, I asked? What are they, he forced out, seeming to have trouble admitting ignorance. I explained, and he dismissed them as "some bullshit". Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it isn't valid, I said. I'm not gay but I'm okay with homosexuals, he countered. I...was lost in the face of the sheer brilliance of the argument, such a behemoth in its logical fallacies that I did not even know where to begin to take it apart. Sensing victory, he went on - so you don't want to have sex, you have no desire, you're just like every other virgin waiting for a right time that will never come, you're asexual. You aren't even being consistent, I wanted to say; please stop talking, I wanted to say; please come stand over here so I can kick you in the balls and shut you up long enough to talk some sense into you, I wanted to scream.

But I said nothing. I sipped my wine and let him blubber away into silence, which soon turned to apologies - you don't hate me, right? It was just a joke. Hey, you don't hate me right?

I did not hate him. He was not remotely important enough to be worthy of that.

But he was a man™. How was he to know?

For You

"Dear You,

Today my pen stopped working, and I finally got the courage to write how I feel about you. I checked three times to make sure it really had stopped working, scribbling inklessly across pages and pages, ensuring it wouldn't betray me with ink at the last moment. It didn't work, and the haunting (evocative? beautiful?) music played on, and it really was too dramatic a moment to pass by, and so I wrote. I wrote that I loved you, and that I was a fool, and I wondered to the still-blank sheet why I must be like this. I wrote that you were beautiful, and I was not, but it would be the same even if it was any other way, if I was beautiful and you were not, or we both were, or we both were not- because I would still be in love, and you would not. The sheet listened, oh it listened like you never could, absorbing every word, and leaving just enough of an impression to show it was listening, and I wrote everything, I said it all. And then I rubbed the sheet out gently, rubbed out every indention of my emotions, rubbed till my hand was warm and the paper was smooth and every slightest trace of my love gone.

And now I've confessed all I felt, and all I'm left with is a blank sheet and a pen which does not work.

Love,
Me."

Star-addicted

Virtual reality-
The stars above you,
Two inches from your face,
Turn left and they're so much closer-
You can see the crystals, the sharp edges-
Right, and they're distant lights again.
Is that how life is?
(This is where this gets pretentious.)
Look up close at the sharp angles and mistakes,
Or far away at the general joy
(General Joy, salute, mandatory reference made)
and sadness, regrets and nostalgia.
Who makes this choice, are we born with it?
Do we decide how to see the glass,
Half-full or half-empty, beer or wine?
(I don't know what I'm saying.)
Oh yes- the stars-
They're beautiful, are they not?
So pretty, so romantic,
Those burning balls of fire,
Consuming gas, imploding, exploding-
Whatever it is that stars do.
Whatever it is that lovers do.

Because I spent half this morning thinking about the tee-shirt you sleep in.

The title is a reference to a song by Birdy, every single word of which is resonating with me right now, which is a situation I'm not too pleased with. Can you please just go away, feelings? This is not working out for me. I need a break. Go away, go party in Hawaii or something. Lust after some hot lifeguard. Just stop feeling so much, god, stop being so aware of him every moment of every day, stop thinking about what he might be doing, stop looking at his facebook profile, the same pictures over and over again, stop thinking about that god-awful smirk of his, stop it, stop it, stop it.
And if you can't stop, at least get some decent writing out of it, what the hell is this crap? Just quote some nice song by someone else, and that's it, you're done expressing yourself? Come up with something original, jeez. Write a bit of angsty poetry. A future classic about the hardships of love, or whatever in the hell this is. Obsession, I think, would be a better description than love. [Would also make a better story.] Love is so different. Right? So much purer. So much less moony, or at least I hope so- unless the mooning is reciprocated, in which case, all is okay. Love has to be reciprocated, right? You can't just fall in love with the twirl of someone's hair, the poise of his hands and feet (did you even know feet could be poised?), the intensity and laughter of his gaze. Can you? Can you be in love with someone who isn't even here, in whose life you don't even feature, except maybe some extra who moved across the screen that one time in that one scene? Can you be in love with someone who exists more in your mind than in your life?
Oh shut up, you aren't in love with him. A week of vacation, when your mind isn't desperately trying to get away from thinking about work and other things actually relevant to your life, and you'll be over him like a frog over a puddle.
At least I hope you will. Don't fall into that puddle, frog. Don't let the pretty shimmering entice you into it. That light is deceptive. That puddle is not good for you. Jump over it, and hop away as fast as you can. Or better yet- jump over it, and forget it ever existed in the first place.
Is this writing good enough to make up for all of the feelings? I certainly hope so, because it's all I got right now.

I shall stop talking to myself now.
Goodnight folks. (Ha, like I'm sleeping.)

Love or whatever,
~Sam

A Description

Hello, lovelies. It's been almost a month since I've last blogged-for that, I'm sorry, mostly to myself.
Here's a little thing I wrote a while ago. One day, I hope to make it part of a story.

The weather was beautiful, the breeze stirring. I was on the terrace, and the sky was the Dreamworks sky again, the stars patterned just for me, in a language I couldn’t decipher and didn’t need to. I chatted with the boy who’d liked me, and whom I cared for most when he didn’t, and wished it were socially acceptable to speak with friends the way I do with a blank page, wished I could describe this moment of pure scenic joy, pure Keatsian beauty, like this, to him.

Love.

To Be Or Not To Be And All That Jazz

Impromptu writing session with a friend.
[Like, written-in-three-minutes-in-the-middle-of-an-unrelated-conversation impromptu.]
We alternated stanzas. I'm the hopeful one.

To be or not to be,
To love or not to love,
To laugh or not to laugh,
To live or not to live,
When it all ends in tears.

It seems so difficult,
So impossible even to imagine,
That it could be easy.
But it can be easy.

I tried my best,
Opened my heart to a world of hope,
But all I got was a world of pain,
Can you blame me when I wonder
Whether to be or not to be?

But some days it gets better.
Some days I can see.
The shining letters dancing,
Screaming, "Be, be, be!"

A period-less post.

Okay I am in love with Rascal Flatts I'm pretty sure this is no suprise to anyone who knows me because duh it's like their songs are composed of mush and love and the tears of heartbreak and just pure amazingness which is basically me but yeah I've basically been listening to them all evening and wow

Does a period-less post remain a true period-less post if there are capitals and punctuation and paragraphs and maybe I'm not as good at this as I thought

Buzzfeed just posted a picture of a hedgehog in a sombero and wow it's at times like these that I'm glad the internet exists though I've basically just been ugh about it lately because wow there's a lot of stuff on the internet it just drags you in you know no okay it's just me then

I'm really sorry I just don't think I can write anymore I don't know what's wrong with me oh yes I do laziness and writer's block

I can't believe I'm actually going to publish this it's totally going to come back and bite me but ah well

If only I were capable of managing time.

A poem written out of a conversation between the Christmas Cookie and I.

"Why must sleep and work be so mutually exclusive,
For me?"
"Well, if only you could manage time,
They wouldn't be!"
"If I were to manage time, ha!
I could rid the world of cancer.
Then I would be rich and famous,
Live a life fulfilled and joyous.
Know all the right men and women,
Even my beloved, Hugh Jackman!
And with Hiddelston, the Tom,
Get the Cookie on!
Oh what a life would be mine,
If only I were able to manage time!"

Hate and Love

Hate. It's such a strong word, isn't it? So much stronger than love. Think of Hitler. Think of aggression, of wrath, of the violent father's fury, of seething jealousy. Think of anger, of a human scorned, think of sore egos and nurtured scores. Think of the storm, wiping everything in its path. How could anything withstand the forceful tsunami of hate?

Then think of love. Think of the boy in the striped pyjamas. Think of childhood, think of innocence, of forgiveness and acceptance, of a mother's healing hand, of embracing the good in others and in yourself. Think of trust, of wounds healed and scars faded, of the waves washing all that is ill and all that is good into the past and leaving clean sand. Rejuvenating, regenerating, rebirthing. A renaissance. Think of second chances and a stranger's smile. Think of the birds rebuilding, think of the bud peeping through after everything has been wiped out. How could anything resist the gentle persuasion of love?

Storm Side Effects

It's cold and rainy and wet and muddy and deserted and it's boyfriend weather and I have no boyfriend and I've ruined two pairs of jeans in as many days and now I'll have to do laundry. Waah.

There are a few good things though:
-The normal winter joy of being cuddled up in blankets and bed with hot buns and hotter soup.
-The fact that the few people I see are all dressed in black hoodies so it looks like a town populated by ninjas.
-The prospect of the beauty after all this is over.
-The fact that someone down the corridor is playing the piano and singing beautifully to Someone Like You, which totally complements the atmosphere right now. I love live music, especially in a situation like this.

My First Crush

Twas many years ago. A hot summer had just ended, and I was starting eighth grade in a new continent, country and school. Having recently discovered my hormones, I was all into unconciously checking the boyzz out, but no one had caught my eye as such.

Till he came.

We had a party one day.
And he came.
Home.
To my house.
I was seeing him after years.
I don't recall ever noticing the fact that he was male, before.
Now it was all I could see.
We'd known them before we moved, and now we were back, he was yummy--and they were moving.
Away.
To a different city, a different world, for all I could care.
Away.

And I haven't seen him since.

And my love-life hasn't gotten any better since then either.

Sigh.

Trouble

So the two, er, people, I most want to marry right now are:
1. The scent of a bakery.
2. Google.

Next would be Hugh Jackman, I guess, who thankfully does appear to be an actual person, inhumanly flawless and out of reach as he may be.

God, I'm in trouble.

~Sam

Also, this is my first blogpost from my phone, yay! No more forgetting ideas by the time I reach my laptop! :D

I dream.

Of being on the New York Times bestseller list.
Of having memes of my quotes, fangirls (boys?) of me.
Of being happy.
Of being sexy.
Of finding Him.
Of being beautiful, in love.
Of chocolate cake.
Of opening a bakery. (I can't bake, this won't happen.)
Of marrying a baker.
Of bakery-scented deodorants. (Yes, I like bakeries.)
Of comfortable stilettos.
Of long, beautiful hair.
Of a beautiful house, and an even more beautiful home.
Of a world with no mosquitoes, cockroaches, rats, lizards or hate. (The rest, I can live with.)
Of flawless skin.
Of tasty health-food. (Again, not happening any time soon.)
Of a world of love.
Of a world I love.

I dream of writing something beautiful, something original, something so deep, so profound, that everyone can see its truth, everyone can feel it; that no one has words to express their awe, that everyone will remember always, and quote, and dwell on, and revel in. I dream of writing something that is mine.

~Sam

Though these days of course, I pretty much just dream of sleep.

Brains are so annoying sometimes.

Well, most of the times.
I mean, really! You think it could, for once, like what its currently doing right? But no. Always, always it makes me want to do things I can't at a particular time, and then when I can, IT WON'T FEEL.
Ugh.
When you want to work, they wander away to fantasize about Hugh Jackman's mouth, and when you're merrily stalking they sneak up behind you and nag you about how much work you need to do. Make up your mind, stupid brain! Why can't you just focus on one thing?! And your ideas have inordinately bad timing. Every single time. The wonderful blog post comes in the shower. The thing you needed to Google you remember when you switch off the laptop. The soap you needed to buy you remember when you're on your way home. Always. Why?

Equally annoying as brains are brothers. I mean, for 364 days of the year they'll act like total jerks and probably ignore your very existence (exaggerating here, but whatever, exaggerating is fun). And then one fine day they'll go out and do something so absolutely brilliant, sweet, beautiful and unexpected that you forgive them completely for the next 364 days of jerk-i-ness. And no, it wasn't my birthday. Which made it even sweeter. They have the right idea. Get your expectations of them so low that you're thankful when they remember to call you once in a while, and then boom, blow them away with a kind act out of nowhere so that you're walking on air. Stupid, useless, smart, caring, lovable idiots. Hunh.

Birdies in the sky.

If I ever got a tattoo, I think I'd get one of a bird, simply because they symbolize so much-both as an inspiration, and as a caution. [Update: As of now, my tattoo status is this: Never getting one, because pain, and AIDS, and permanence, and deciding, and ew, but hypothetically, I'd get a trio of a nightingale, a mockingbird, and a bluejay circling on the part where my wrist meets my palm.]

Love. Fragility. Strength. Perseverance. Peace. Determination. Beauty. Sharing. Togetherness. Simplicity. Belief. Innocence. Naivete.

There's just so much to learn from birds. How to overcome, everything. Rebuild, again, and again, and again. Migrate, again, and again, and again. Love, live, lay.  I sat in my garden today and just watched them. There was a little water on the ground, waste water, left over from when the garden had been watered. They'd creep in, in twos or threes, always in pairs-a bird was never alone for long, even if it came down alone. Some would drink, taking a sip and then looking all around, bobbing their little heads, looking out for danger. Some seemed to be bathing, sinking their upper bodies into the water, then shivering violently to get rid of the droplets, and flying away to perch on a tree, preening. Then again, they'd hop down, repeat the same procedure over and over again, four of them, in a little puddle of water, completely ignoring the little birdbath kept near the tree for their leisure.

Until I looked up once and they were gone.

It would be cliched to say I learned so much from that half an hour's experience, and also false, because I didn't learn anything new. Everything which was to be said about birds, has already been said. We've all thought about being them, and they've been the muses of poets for decades.I even have an unfinished post sitting in my own drafts box, entitled "This is me thinking about being a bird."

And yet, this post.

I would want to be a bird, for their freedom, for their togetherness, for their innocence and for their simplicity, everything I mentioned above. I wouldn't want to be a bird, for their life, for their dangers, for every moment fraught with risk, for their misplaced innocence--sit still for long enough, and a bird will fly its way right into your hand, to be crushed, destroyed, or frightened away.

Birds, butterflies-they were not made for this world, like flies were, or humans. And yet they survive, and they show us how to survive. A tiny, tiny little creature, inquisitive, daring, bright, beautiful--showing us the way of life. And, perhaps, its meaning.

More ramblings. (This is what I do when I have things to say but not enough to make an entire post.)

Hi.
If you're a hyper-sensitive guy well aware of his manliness who refuses to carry his girlfriend/mom's handbag, you should probably leave right now.
As should sane persons and other people who like coherence in their blog posts.

----------

So first up, if having a baby is anywhere near as uncomfortable as the processes that make childbirth possible, I'm never doing it. Screw experience, one magical moment is not going to make up for nine months of torture. I'll just adopt and pledge my soul to Greenpeace instead.

(Greenpeace because I'm being all eco-friendly by not adding to the population, and because everything-literally everything, from sushi to sanitation- can be linked to the environment. And therefore by extension to Greenpeace.)
(Also, congratulations. You now know that I've never experienced the joys of childbirth.
 (or have I?)
 Bravo.)

----------

God.
Why, God, why? Why do you hate me? And if you don't, why do you act like you do? Why do you ignore all my sorry's and pleas and thank you's? Do you not care about me? Why did you make me, then, if your plan all along was to leave me?
Why do you not listen to me? Why do you not acknowledge my existence? Why do you ignore all my thousands of thought-messages? Are you not telepathic? But you're God. If you're not telepathic, what hope do the rest of us have?

----------

Google.
If Google was a person (a guy person) I would marry it. It has everything I want. It's amazing and it's popular, it's successful and it knows everything without being an idiot about it, it looks good and it plays pranks on people, it's unique and it's accessible, it's multifaceted and it has a sense of humor, it's ultra-cute and I bet if it had a smile, it would have dimples.
So there you go. My perfect man is a search engine.

Though I totally love Sergey Brin, too. Marry me?

And that is what PMS and a soppy Valentine video from Google does to me.

This post is probably going to come back to haunt and embarrass the life out of me later.

Meh. I'll go eat my Subway now. (Subway <3)

You know what the worst thing is?

know who my perfect guy is. I know he exists. I know he's out there. I know he's not some unattainable dream.

I know he's out of my reach.

He's perfect.
He has dimples, the most beautiful smile.
He plays the guitar and the piano and sings, and I have every reason to believe he writes well.
He's gorgeous, he's talented; he seems nice.
He's funny, he's modest despite having every reason to be arrogant; he's beautiful.
He's perfect.
His looks, his history, his eyes, his teeth, his hair, his everything.
He's everything I've ever wanted; he's the perfect personification of my ideal man.

Unfortunately, he's also taken.

I love.

This is a throwback to this post, which reminded me of all the hate I had in me yesterday, and probably will have in me again tomorrow, but not today. Because today is for peace, and joy, and love.

I love today.

I love being sick. I love having an excuse to do nothing all day, but suddenly having no need for an excuse.

I love lazing around, stretched out on the grass; lying in the sun, soaking in the rays that well-meaning people had thrust upon me, saying that the sun would do me good.

I love chatting easily with old friends and new, having light, laughing conversations and connections, over everything and nothing.

I love reading the perfect book to match the perfect time-reading about a woman getting rid of her boring routine life for one of impulse and fun, just when I was doing the same, albeit in a smaller manner, without the one night stand or identity theft.

I love not having the energy to worry, the necessity to plan, the compulsion to think.

I love feeling floaty and pretty and beautiful, without anything having changed.

I love loving the day, the world, the universe, my life. I love shining benevolence on everyone and everything around me.

I love feeling needed and loved, accepted and accepting.

I love being able to write again. I love my thoughts exploding onto your screen in tiny grey characters.

I love smiling and laughing with every inch of me.

I love relaxing. I love feeling free.

I love life.

I love the dreaminess, the effortless ease and perfection of today. I love the inherent peace, the total sense of rightness, calm, acceptance and bliss.

I love today.

Its not perfect, but today it doesn't have to be.
