Furies of Calderon by Jim Butcher- Reviewed.

This book, man. Where do I even begin? Oh right, from the beginning. :P For starters, it is the first of a six part series called Codex Alera. This book contains all kinds of awesome. It basically follows the story of 15 year old Tavi who is fury-less and has to rely on his wits and intelligence to survive. Furies are elemental powers. Generally, by the time someone hits puberty, they realize their furies. The more furies you have, the more powerful you are, obviously, and our Tavi here does not develop any. It's your typical high fantasy novel. It has the good and bad, creatures and races, battles and magic. What I loved most about it was the fact that it had the perfect measures of everything. It wasn't too slow and it wasn't rushed either. Butcher maintained the perfect pace throughout the entire book-while, say, in A Song of Ice and Fire, the story is dragged out way too much and there are too many names(other than the main characters). I love both the series on their own standards of course, but I feel like Codex Alera was more to my preference when taking into consideration the style of writing. Oh and nobody dies! Those of you who are familiar with George R.R.M's work know very well what I'm talking about. 'A Song of Ice and Fire', more like 'A Song in which Everyone Dies' amirite? So yeah, in that way, we're safe(so far). It has excellent characters. I love all of them so much. The ships are amazing. Hardly anything happened between the characters and I ship them so hard already. Basically, great book. Highly recommend for those of you who are trying to transition from a YA to Adult and to everyone else as well.
