Last Night

Dark, disturbed dreams
Unremembered
But for stark glimpses-
A cigarette, pain
A troubled visage.
Hot, humid night
Tossed and turned-
A salad of weary limbs
And exhausted sighs.
An old book no friend-
Cathy and Heathcliff
Bring not peace,
But a roiling heart,
And remembrances
Of more peaceful times
Better times-
When home was home
And friends were friends
And love,
Love was a fiction.
